Miranda Ribeiro (1918)
Medium-sized species with a maximal length of around 5.5” pear-shaped body with wide front, and a relatively long caudal peduncle. The anterior is still brightly spotted even in later life. On the back, the spot pattern, which usually becomes coarser and more isolated, becomes blurred with age. A brightly colored area in front of the base of the caudal fin appears to be particularly characteristic. Ventral side dark with light spots. Males usually only have a few thin tentacles.
