A relatively high-backed large dark brown species with a white to yellowish spotted pattern and a slanting caudal fin, whose lower lobe isnt strongly elongate. There is a characteristic dark spot on the base of the dorsal fin between the first and second ray, which is also present in other white-spotted pleco species. Younger specimens have a reddish brown seam on the dorsal and caudal fins, which fade out first from the dorsal fin.
