Changes its appearance considerably with age. Young specimens are dark brown with a dense pattern of tiny light-colored dots on the body and few large light-colored spots in the fins. The caudal fin seam is orange-brown and white. In adult specimens, the dots become even smaller and fade away. The orange brown color in the caudal fin disappears, and only some white spots are left of the seam.
