Madama bristlenose
Newly collected specimens had a brown-orange marbled body and distinctive orange bands on their pectoral fins. In the aquarium, the colors fade somewhat, and the catfish develop a black reticulated pattern on dark brown ground. The orange coloration on the ventral side is said to intensify during mating season. The largest imported specimen (a male) reached a length of 4.25 inches. The females remain smaller. The males have numerous thin tentacles on the head, which totally lack in the females.
