This relatively small bristlenose catfish has a wide, flat body, and small, bright white dots on black ground, which are mostly missing from the front of the head and the caudal fin. The abdomen is light gray and has no dots. The caudal fin is concave, and the lower lobe is elongate. In juveniles, the caudal fin has white tips.
