Small to medium-sized, elongate species resembling our aquarium bristlenose pleco very closely. Ancistrus sp. (L 421) is dark grayish brown with cream-colored spots. The ventral side is light in color, with inconspicuous even lighter spots. The sucker-mouth is ovoid, has lots of paplliae, and not a large number of teeth. Males have relatively long tentacles on the head, mostly unbranching. The pectoral fins are relatively long.
