Small bristlenose catfish with uncommon shape and an enormous sucker-mouth, at first thought to be a Baryancistrus, but the males form distinct tentacles only when older. The coloration is highly variable, dark to blackish brown, some specimens inconspicuous, some with bright greenish spots. Younger specimens have reddish brown fin seams.
