This species is said to be brown to black in color, with pale round markings on the upper side. Tentacles of the males are poorly developed and short, but the females also show short extensions. Although Ancistrus species are regularly imported for the hobby from the Rio Tocantins river system, this species does not yet seem to have been among them.
