Steindachner described the species as Chaetostomus jelskii from the Río Tulumayo in the upper Río Ucayali basin near Amable Maria, and Monterico in Peru. It is said to have a slight sprinkled pattern on its head, a washed-out marbled pattern on the body, and very small eyes. The 150-year-old species description is quite superficial, as was customary at the time, and doesn't provide any more data. Unfortunately, we cannot depict this species; Fisch-Muller in Reis et al. (2003) found that its syntypes were lost, and that there are no further catalogued specimens.

Further information (such as origin, keeping, care and breeding) aboutAncistrus jelskii can be found in our new book about the loricariid catfish of the Ancistrus genus.
