Ancistrus greeni is flat-bodied, with very small eyes, large sucker-mouth, and yellowish brown to dark brown in color. A long, flat carina formed by bony plates next to the adipose fin is typical. The dorsal part is strewn with small, round, light-colored spots (variant L 510). Grant found specimens with larger spots (L 512), and with an almost marbled pattern a variable species. The fins may have light-colored, and dark spots, aligning into bands. Evers describes the tentacles of live specimens as orange-yellow.
