Eigenmann & Eigenmann (1889)
A larger species with cream-colored spots on a dark brown background, a coloration it has in common with many species. The spots are roundish and irregularly shaped. The largest ones reach about the size of the pupil. The fins are dark-edged, which is especially the young fish show more clearly. These still have light-colored tips on the tail and dorsal fins. Males obviously do not form huge clutches of tentacles, that can be branched.
