The dark brown species has yellowish-brown spots, mainly on its head. The front of its body is extremely wide, the caudal peduncle is strikingly slender, with a circular caudal fin. The unbranching tentacles on the head of the males aren‘t overly long. The club shaped body of this uncommon Ancistrus resembles the west Andean Ancistrus clementinae from Ecuador.
