Eigenmann (1928)
Eigenmann in Myers (1928) describes Ancistrus occloi from a locality at 9,000 ft. above sea level, which would make it truly a mountain species. It also implies minimum temperatures of 35 °F in July. The type locality is the village Ollantaytambo. The species allegedly occurs in the upper reaches of the Río Urubamba (Ucayali basin). A close look at the type specimens shows a wide-bodied, very flat typical mountain species with extremely small eyes, and a huge sucker-mouth. In the aquarium it should have cool, highly oxygenated water and a strong current, however, imports are highly unlikely.
