Ancistrus jataiensis is a tiny species without an adipose. Its coloration is described as reddish to dark brown with light-colored spots on the head. The fins are brownish, with whitish to orange spots, the membranes are variable in pigmentation. The spots on the caudal fin often form bands, its upper and lower tips are typically yellowish to orange.
