Due to their lifestyle in permanent darkness, each population presents patterns of depigmentation and ocular degeneration at different levels of regression. In an aquarium, they acquire a color with shades of orange and the gray spots become darker due to the dye in the food and the light stimuli of the artificial environment. They exhibit photophobic behavior under light stimulation and cryptobiotic behavior when disturbed (Secutt i, pers. obs.).
