This rather small species was described from the upper and middle reaches of the Rio Iguaçu in the Rio Paraná basin in Brazil in 2009. The dark brown catfish grows around 5 inches long and has light brown, irregular medium-sized spots on its body, and smaller ones on its head. In the fins, dark brown spots are grouped together, forming 3-4 bands.
