Knaack (1999); Schraml, (1993);
The body of this small bristlenose catfish is rather flat in shape, and it has a large sucker-mouth. The species is extremely variable in coloration, either of a dull grayish brown, or nicely patterned. Specimens with an attractive worm-line pattern as shown here are quite rare. This catfish was imported many years ago. Newly imported A. claro are rarely this beautiful. Probably, recent imports are collected in another locality than in earlier times. Males are more attractive, grow larger, and have unbranching, rather short tentacles, females only have few short appendages on the snout rim.
