This bristlenose catfish may grow to a length of 6-7 inches in nature, but aquarium specimens usually only reach 3-5 inches. Large white dots or spots on black ground and the presence of an upper and lower filament in the caudal fin make the species easy to identify. Males have robust, well-spaced tentacles, and the females also have short appendages on their snout rim. Juveniles have fewer and rather large dots, corresponding to the form LDA 003.
