Small bristlenose catfish with an unusual body shape and a huge sucker mouth. It was therefore initially thought to be a Baryancistrus, but the males only develop noticeable tentacles when they get older. The coloring is very variable, ranging from dark to blackish brown, from inconspicuous to covered with bright greenish spots. Younger animals show reddish-brown edges to the fins.
