While the species can certainly reach 15-18 cm in length in the wild, aquarium specimens usually only grow to 10-12 cm. A species that is easy to identify with its large white dots or spots on a black background and an upper and lower filament on the caudal fin. Males with strong growth of individual tentacles and also the females with significant tentacle growth, especially on the edge of the snout. Younger specimens often show fewer and larger dots, which corresponds to the LDA 003 form.
